Black Eyed Peas are a wedding favourite

Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey have dominated wedding playlists for years.

But not anymore — as a new study has revealed that our favourite wedding song is The Black Eyed Peas hit I Gotta Feeling.

The research shows that Aussies are ditching cheesy tunes and power ballads from their wedding playlists — opting instead for modern favourites.

The raunchy Kings of Leon track Sex on Fire — which topped the charts in 2009 — is the second most common song played at wedding bashes.

Surprisingly, this was followed by The Killers’ Mr Brightside — a song about infidelity and relationship paranoia.

Stevie Wonder’s 1972 funky floor-filler Superstition and Abba’s 1976 singalong Dancing Queen completed the top five.

The analysis of 78,000 wedding playlists by digital music service Spotify found that many old favourites — including classics by The Beatles  and The Rolling Stones — have been dumped in favour of hip hop and  rock tracks.

Celebrity DJ Sam Young says newly-weds want to create a bigger party atmosphere at their wedding receptions.

Sam, 32, said: “Ever since Kate and William got married last year, weddings have become cool again.

“The rumours about their wedding party exploits dominated the press — apparently party-lover Harry created the reception playlist for them — and now all couples are desperate to recreate that buzz.

“At first it might seem surprising that songs about sex and getting trashed are topping wedding playlists.

“But, from my experience I know that couples are more concerned with throwing the ultimate party for their guests than slow-dancing the night away.”
