Will Ferrell last night announced he is making a sequel to movie Anchorman…in a cheeky TV appearance as his alter ego.
The actor spoke to US chat show host Conan O’Brien, after coming on stage dressed as Ron Burgundy and playing the character’s flute.
He told Conan: “I want to announce this to everyone here in the Americas, to our friends in Spain, Turkey, and the UK, including England, that as of 0900 mountain time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel to Anchorman.”
He added: “It is official. There will be a sequel to Anchorman.”
But efforts to get a sequel off the ground were stalled despite Ferrell repeatedly saying he was keen.
Now the movie has been given the go ahead. And the news appeared to go down well. The audience erupted in loud cheers before “Ron” launched into song and made his way backstage.
Earlier during the show, San Diego’s finest export lay into Conan’s appearance.
He made a dig at the presenter’s hair and told him to have plastic surgery.
The actor told him: “I’ve got one small criticism, and I think it’s something only a professional like me would notice, but Conan, you look awful.
“Let me give you some words of advice. Fire your hair lady, fire your make-up lady, fire your gay wardrobe man, and just go under the knife, OK?
“Go into your doctor’s office and point at your face and say, ‘Doc, it’s a page one rewrite’.”
