Man kills himself after seeing Them Crooked Vultures

A man is believed to have committed suicide because he was suffering from tinnitus for three months after watching a Them Crooked Vultures gig, according to reports.

Robert McIndoe, 52, stabbed himself to death because he was unable to sleep due to the constant ringing in his ears after attending a show by the rock supergroup, whose line-up is comprised of Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin.

McIndoe’s wife, Shirley McIndoe, said her husband had been “cross with himself” for not taking ear plugs to the show, which took place last July, and claimed that he had been left “really, really distressed” after he was turned away from several doctor and hospital appointments.

He unsuccessfully attempted to take his own life on October 19 2010 after taking an overdose of sleeping pills, but a hearing at Southwark Coroner’s Court learnt that he had died on October 31 after apparently stabbing himself.

Talking about her husband’s tinnitus, Mrs McIndoe said, “When it first happened he wasn’t too bothered about it because he thought it would subside, and the friend he had been with also had ringing in his ears that day. But it was a constant irritation. He didn’t get a night of sleep after that.”

Discussing his mood before his death, meanwhile, she added: “He was very distressed saying he couldn’t go on. It was awful, he looked terrible, and he just felt so bad all the time. He was desperate that it was never going to change – he didn’t know if he could live like this.”

The hearing is set to continue…

Them Crooked Vultures formed in 2009 and went on to release their self-titled debut album that year. The band have previously hinted that they would like to record a second album and had started work on new material.
