Magnetic man attempts new world record

A Georgian man with apparently ‘magnetic’ powers has shown off his unusual talents by sticking 50 spoons to his body.

Etibar Elchyev, a 39-year-old kick-boxing trainer, had originally planned to break the Guinness World Record for balancing spoons on one’s face – with 27 the current target to beat.

However after a change of plan he decided to break the world record for balancing them on his body instead – managing to secure 50 around his neck and chest.

And after he achieved this feat in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, Mr Elchyev said he was prepared to go even further in his record-breaking goals.

‘I am pleased with today’s results but I am not in a hurry to lay all my cards on the table immediately,’ he said. ‘As soon as you do it, everything is over.

‘As you have seen I announced I would balance only 27 spoons but showed I could do 50 instead.

So next time I might show not 150 but even more,’ he added. ‘My goal is to set a world record which no-one else can break.’
