Student lands job testing water slides

It’s the summer job like no other – testing out water slides at some of the world’s holiday hotspots.

And lucky Seb Smith has landed the ‘dream’ role after beating 2,000 other applicants.

While many other university students will spend their summer in temporary office jobs, the 22-year-old undergraduate will be paid a salary of $30,000-a-year to ride and rate the chutes operated by holiday company First Choice.

He will file his reports online while spending the summer travelling to exciting destinations including Majorca, Turkey, Egypt and Jamaica.

His six-month tour of the package group’s 20 Splash World resorts includes all overseas travel expenses and at the end of the contract he gets a seven-night holiday for two at an all-inclusive resort as a reward for all his ‘hard-work’.

‘I’m absolutely over the moon to be chosen as the new slide tester – and can’t wait to get started in my new job,’ said the design technology student.

‘I can’t believe I’ll be travelling the world judging slides based on the biggest splash and adrenaline factor.

‘It’s going to be amazing and I’m really looking forward to being part of the team and to sharing my experiences with holidaymakers.’
