Barrichello is set for IndyCar

Moves by KV Racing to sign Rubens Barrichello for the 2012 IZOD IndyCar series season appear to be in full swing.

Barrichello is immensely popular in Brazil, a key market for IndyCar racing and was impressed by his first run in the KV Racing DW12 car.

The 40-year-old will now test again at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma on February 25 and 26.

KV team manager Mark Johnson has claimed the Formula 1 refugee is close to finalising his spot in the category.

“It’s like we did last year with Tony Kanaan,” Johnson said.

“We all sat around a table and said, ‘You in? You in? You in?’ And we made it happen.”

Tony Kanaan is close friends with Barrichello and has been instrumental in luring his compatriot to North America.

Barrichello has previously sworn never to race on ovals after a request from his wife but told reporters in February that the issue was now “solved”.
