Australian Olympic star Stephanie Rice has been forced to give back her Jaguar car in the aftermath of a homophobic slur she sent on Twitter over the weekend.
Rice has been dumped by sponsor Jaguar following the controversy, which began when she tweeted “Suck on that faggots!” in relation to Australia’s rugby union win over South Africa on the weekend.
The 22-year-old swimmer will now be without her $100,000-plus Jaguar XF after the company confirmed it will no longer sponsor her.
“We made a decision yesterday, and we’ve terminated the agreement with her,” Eedle told Fairfax.
“We will be taking the car that she’s been using back.”
Rice has apologised for her comments on her website, saying “I made a comment on Twitter on Saturday night in the excitement of the moment. I did not mean to cause offence and I apologise”.
Buford Balony says: Big deal, we all know what South Africans are like. They all want to be Aussies. That’s it, I will never buy a Jaguar again. If they do that to Steph they can get stuffed. Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill. It must mean that Jaguar is after the gay market. If she’d said “suck on that straights” they probably would have given her the car for good.
