Webber edged out by Vettel for Korea pole

Red Bull dominated qualifying for the Korean Grand Prix, with Sebastian Vettel edging out team-mate Mark Webber to secure pole position.

Vettel took the honours for the ninth time this season, just edging out Webber, while being two tenths of a second quicker than third-placed Fernando Alonso in his Ferrari.

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton had to settle for fourth place after a disappointing session, with Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg fifth fastest, Ferrari’s Felipe Massa sixth and Jenson Button back in seventh.

Going into the weekend Webber leads the championship by 14 points from Alonso and Vettel, with Hamilton 28 points adrift of the Australian.

Vettel said after clinching pole: “It was a very good achievement from all of us, because yesterday was not smooth running.”

“It would have been nice to get pole, but it’s a good place to start the race,” Webber added.
